Hitch & Sway

Editorial Policy

The specific rules this site holds itself to, rather than a general promise of independence.

By Brijon M.Last updated

This page states the rules Hitch & Sway holds itself to. They are specific rather than aspirational, because a general promise of independence is worth nothing against a commission structure.

Commission never decides a verdict

Products are ordered by how well they match a reader's problem, not by what they pay. Where a cheaper option is the better answer, the cheaper option ranks first - and several pages on this site recommend spending nothing at all, which is the strongest version of this rule in practice.

No fabricated anything

  • No invented specifications. Every figure is sourced to the manufacturer or the regulator, with the link alongside it.
  • No invented testing. We do not have a test rig, and no page implies otherwise.
  • No invented credentials. The author's background is stated as it is, and nothing more is claimed.
  • No testimonials or customer reviews. This brand has none, and inventing them would be both dishonest and unlawful.
  • No prices, no star ratings, no review counts. None exist in a verifiable form for this site, so none appear on it.

Every pick carries its downside

Each product entry includes a required "skip it if" line stating who the product is wrong for. It is written from a genuine weakness of the design, not manufactured to make a page look even-handed. A pick with no honest downside is a pick we have not thought about hard enough.

Safety content is not a monetization surface

Pages about what to do while a trailer is swaying, how to hitch up, or how safety chains should be arranged exist to be correct, not to sell. Where a product genuinely belongs in that context it appears; where one does not, the page ships without picks and says why.

Corrections and updates

Pages carry a last-updated date that reflects real content changes rather than a build timestamp. When a figure is corrected, the page is updated and the date moves. Reader corrections are read first.

What we would change this policy for

Nothing a merchant offered. If the site ever does acquire the ability to test products, or a licensed ratings source, that will be stated plainly on how we research before any such data appears on a page - not quietly introduced alongside it.
